Regular Greys and Popeye Greys
All my Popeye Greys basically descended from one ancestor. It came from a multi winner Hatch Grey broodcock of Harold Brown that he gifted to my dad way back in the late 70s. They called him Popeye becoz one of the eye was a bit deformed. As to what the actual composition of the original Popeye bcock, my dad said it was a 3/4 Reg Grey 1/4 Mclean. He was actually a peacomb grey cock, with a golden duckwing color. The early matings of my dad of Popeye was mainly cross to his Hatches, both Mcleans & Blueface. Most came out golden duckwing Hatch Greys, occasionally a hatch colored pullet would show up. These were the Greys that my dad was fighting in the 80s that were very successful, which eventually became his signature line. They were accurate cutters, deep game, they have it all - power, smartness, they have the ability to win even from way behind. So he set them as his Grey strain and called them his Popeye greys. Through the years we either breed back to the grey side (Regular Greys) for linebreeding or cross them out to our Hatches (Mcleans or Blueface) for battlecrossing. So thats how they were bred for many many years. If u breed them close to the grey side, eventually u will end up producing a Regular Grey phenotype being silver grey st combs.
The Regular Greys are foundation bloodlines from Harold Brown. We kept this bloodline as pure as possible without any other outside blood. So these are very inbred bloodlines that were preserved well..
